Institutional Structure
At the LMU Munich, the Study of Religion is designed as an interfaculty programme. Two chairs form the disciplinary core of our programme: one chair affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and the Study of Religion (Prof. Dr. Robert A. Yelle) and a second one affiliated with Protestant Theology (Prof. Dr. Daria Pezzoli-Olgiati).
Our continuous cooperation with various philology departments, Philosophy, Theology, Jewish Studies and cultural studies such as Anthropology and European Ethnology allows for a unique range in its historical and empirical orientation. There are also liaisons with Sociology, History and History of Art. Moreover, our programme has long-standing ties with the Center of Buddhist Studies (Zentrum für Buddhismusforschung) and the Munich Center for Islamic Studies (Münchener Zentrum für Islamstudien).
This interfaculty structure allows us to offer a broad range of courses. Thus, students are given the opportunity to specialise in a large variety of fields.
